Open Mic Night will be every 1st and 3rd Wednesday from July at The Fawcett Inn, Fawcett Road, Portsmouth, UK!

Some people are tempting Apples wrath, at leats i couldnt find anything for “Apple G5” though.

Heres my Amazon.co.uk Wishlist, currently the first Riverworld book, Willam Gibsons latest, and two Robert Rankin books.
Id like to find a php version that i can list in my blog.

I thought id have a stab at explaining my show/hide items. This is specific to Thistle but imsure it can be amnded for others.
Note Ive had to replace the open and close arrow brackets with [ and ] as they wont show up.

First create a file called style.php for example. If we are hiding 2 items called intro and calendar it should contain

[?php
if ($intro) {
setcookie (‘introa’, $intro, time()+31536000);
}
if ($calendar) {
setcookie (‘calendara’, $calendar, time()+31536000);
}
header(“Location: $HTTP_REFERER”);
 ?]

The first If statements pic up the php variable (index.php?variable=whatever) and save them into cookies named introa and calendara. the only do this if either of them contain a value. The header line sends you back to the original page.

In your flavour file, within the top of the function headblock define the cookie variables as global

global $introa;
global $calendara;

Then within the head content of the flavour file set up the style sheets

$head[] = “[style type=”text/css”]
#intro {display: $introa; }
#calendar {display: $calendara; }
 [/style]”;

This will replace $introa and $calendara with with whatevers in the cookie. If the cookies not yet been defined (IE youve not clicked on the show/hide links yet) its blank but that seems OK as it seems to be the same as block (block shows the object, none hides it)

The where your object is place

$head[] = ‘[a href=”./style.php?calendar=block”]show [/a] | [a href=”./style.php?calendar=none”]hide[/a][div id=”calendar”]’;

before it, this is for the calender item. The first “Show” link calls style.php and tells it calendar is block. The second “Hide” sets it to none. Div id calendar opens the div and names it calendar for the earlier stylesheet.

After your object place

[/div]

Just to end it.

Err, thats it. Im afraid Im not too good at explaining this stuff, due partly to the fact that I use the Patent-Pending “Hit or Miss” System, so Im none too sure how I did it myself, but hopefully itll be useful to someone.

After a hair pulling out day of trying to get my show/hide items ive finally managed it. PHP cookie variables dont work like normal variables, you have to declare them first. So after putting

global $mycookievariable;

in my flavour file, all works fine now.

I tried including a file with them echoed, various echos in the file gahhhh. anyway, its done now, feel free to try it. In if you want to know how to do it email me or leave a message in the shout box and ill attempt to explain.

…then myT610.com is a great resource for wallpapers, themes, games, poly rings and more.

You can actually get Comical Ali on DVD!?!?!

Image 24 - Finger Angel

A bit of grafitti again from Brighton of an Angel (i guess) sticking its middle finger up. Dont know who did it.

Image 25 - WestPier

This is Brightons West Pier before it burnt down and fell in the sea.

This is an absolutely mad-bizzare-scary arcade game from …of course… Japan where the idea of the game is to stick your fingers up someones arse!?!?!?!? Gratefully stolen from Drumfan

In the tradition of the other buttons ive done heres a Blogshares one.

Installed OSX on my work Mac over the weekend, and have used it at work yesterday and today so far. Its not going bad, the only apps that Im using in Classic are Quark 5 (we are currently testing InDesign 2), Adobe Distiller (but only dues to still using Quark) and WhamNet Transmision Manager (to send ISDNs). All seems to be OKish so far, the only problem being, predictably, Quark which insists on me choosing my printer from the Chooser every so often or i cant print. Obviously this isnt really Quarks fault, but Apples as it works on another Mac which has Quark, and we are testing InDesign 2 on, but not mine or another Mac. Its just that Quark is the only Classic app that I print from within. That and also, i havent yet found a screen res Im happy with. Heres an article in MacUser about Quark pulling from Macs, which is why were trying InDesign 2. And heres Quarks page about Quark 6.
Ill bring more news if i think anys worthy of such.

Id like to set my show/hide buttons to be persistant between pages and visiting the site. Ive tried PHP cookies with php variables and just remembering the CSS style, and i cant get my head around javascript. So If you know how to do this.. please, do tell.

Matt Gemmell has done an interesting pre-review of Panthers UI and I think on the whole I agree. Im really NOT looking forward to a metal Finder, though I think you may be able to change it. Also, wheres the G5 PowerBooks? On the plus side, the switching user rotatey cube looks mad (Ill have to create extras users JUST to show it off). And I am too impressed by the PORN key.

I have to agree with Matt, Command K is a much abused shortcut, even by Apple and they REALLY need to sort this out. Apple used to be the leaders in consistency.

If you have a blog based on blosxom you probably dont have trackback facilities heres a form you can use instead.

Cool, blogs just made it onto BBC Radio 4, Today Programme. V funny.

Congrats Dave - I bet youve got a lovely new G5 you B.
