This is a version of my Haggard Sky wallpaper for the T610, it is of course a view of the Tricorn Centre in Portsmouth, UK soon to be demolished.

All alone since my G4/450 tower left.

Identify fonts by uploading images, very useful.

But what does this mean in reality for you and me?

… is being sold so anyone trying to access madeonamac.homeunix.net or greenfruit.dnsalias.net will find an error.

I shall be making my 12in Powerbook my main machine and buying an external keyboard/mouse and flatscreen monitor.

New Apple 15in Powerbook, looks nice, but I still really like the form factor of my 12in Powerbook.

Interesting article about William Gibson and Matrix.

oops, as Timbles noticed on deviant art, Ive stuck 2004 at the bottom of my desktops. Spank me silly and call me John Titor.

This relates to this post.

I think this is one my best of this style. Its the Tricord Centre in Portsmouth UK. Minimal photoshop of basically just extending the right and bottom sky.

Quite frankly, Beatles sueing Apple over iTunes is fucking ridiculous. How exactly is Apple selling music and iPods hitting sales of Beatles music? If anything surely its helping them?

This is more of a personal note, but it maybe helpful to other people. I need to remember all this Bluetooth/GPRS stuff, so i figure my blog is as good a bookmark as any.

These are useful Mac Modem Scripts for the T610 and network info.

More crazy optical illusions.

He did. Seems it survived fairly well.

Ive sent rather more that I expected to the Quark 6 discussion on Macintouch

We had our fair share of problems upgrading to 6. Weve used single user license so we can use 5 or 6 (or indeed 4) on the one machine - i dont know how anyone can manage with just 6. I ordered 9 upgrades from quark direct, all 9 upgrades arrived fairly quickly, but 1 was a retail upgrade with no Validation Key, I spoke to Quark and apparently that serial number had previously been a retail upgrade which is why the 5-6 was (although all 4-5 upgrades were done through Quark).

I started naming the various (slim) envelopes for each user and tried upgrading mine, only to discover that each 6 serial goes with a SPECIFIC 5 serial (no mention of this on the paperwork). I phoned Quark and spent about half an hour on the phone with the very helpful lady as I gave her one v6 serial number and she went off to find the appropriate v5 serial number, repeat 8 more times.

I managed to install my Quark 6, but you have to select the previous Quark 5 AND enter the v5 serial number - crazy. And only one web registration has work so far for the 8 upgrades ive done.

I also mentioned to Quark about moving one copy of Quark to another machine (as if we get a new Mac, or someone moves desks we move the SW with them) and was told I need to fill in the Activation Form with a REALLY good reason why I want to reinstall Quark (err how about the £100s ive just spent upgrading to v6 after the £1000s ive also spent upgrading to v5). I was also told that id need a new activation code if i reinstalled the same copy of Quark6 on the same machine. Though this isnt true as today I reinstalled a misbehaving copy of v6 which didnt ask for anything (and is still misbehaving - more of that next) - so maybe the whole reactivation/install on laptop and desktop is just something Quark made up to prevent people installing multiple copies.

The misbehaving Quark 6 consistently crashes after trying to export as PDF, then creates a corrupt PDF. Any ideas?

Qv6 PDF files do seem to be HUGE and Quark also takes over the screen and wont hide when youre exporting as PDF. This is OSX and it shouldnt do this surely?

Ive also had various font rendering problems, prints disapearing and such problems.

Overall its not an entirely bad program, it prints VERY quickly compared with 5, PDFs very quickly and is easy to use for previous Quark users. The later though is unfortunately its downside as it just doesnt feel like a proper upgrade (which true really since v3), its really just v5 in aqua with a couple of extra touches. Please Quark dump the web editing and use the R&D for decent hi res previews, opacity for quark items and imported pictures, good layer support (add layers to whole document, turn on/off layers in whole document, layer options in print dialog etc), preset pdf settings (importable from .joboptions files), integrate whatever markztools is using to recover “bad file format” quark files, have the palettes which QXtools adds native (horiz scale/baseline shift for text etc), overprint preview on screen, a button to hide/show bleed on screen (is it just me that would LOVE this). Do that and Ill be a happy man.

Mad moving jpeg I found on Designerstalk.
