Why is there no fucking native support for drag n drop of pictures from the Finder to Quark in QuarkXpress 6 on the Mac?

Untril recently I have been using the fantastic JoDrop but the version I had no longer works with 6.5 and they dont do a free copy anymore. Although JoDrop does some other great things the only functionality Im after is drag and drop.

Well thankfully, after some Googling Ive found a free version and Im very happy now.

But Quark, put this in natively! You schmucks! Oh and fix the myriad of problems - like just for one: I cannot double click in an open or save dialog as this causes Quark to quit.

*EDIT:* Well, whilst the free plugin isnt bad, one of the things it doesnt do that JoDrop does which I find invaluable is to scale the image dropped in to the pic box to the same scaling, rotation etc as the pic already there.

Im doing some work at the moment where Ive got to flit between a few Quark, Freehand and Finder windows and its getting very annoying having to either move windows around, resize or minimise them. What would be great is if I could have my windows for each app all tabbed together. Itd be *even* better If I could group tabs _between_ apps, meaning i could have one window for one section which has tabs for the relevant Quark, Freehand and Finder windows and another window for the next section etc.

I know this would be quite a major thing but *please* Steve, make it so in Tiger :-D

Just announced, MarsEdit 1.0 is out (this was posted with the demo). Im tempted to buy the full full version but Ill give the demo a go for a while. Stupidly, when I bought my NetNewsWire license I decided not to buy the NNW/ME combo. Doh!

Still usingMarsEdit, Ive added all my sites too it and most of these have been posted with MarsEdit so I suspect at the end of the months demo Ill be buying it.

Minor update uploaded: Ive uploaded the current files which includes the minor amends thus far - so nothing major.

Now at v beta2.

Fantastic pic imho.

FotoBuzz is a pretty cool image utility for websites, feels similar to the flickr image viewer thing with notes and stuff.

Just a quick note to say my new WordPress 1.3 theme is available. More information on the mallow site, or an image for no good reason.

*EDIT:* Update 10-12-4.

Very useful site with loads of great iTunes Applescripts - Doug’s AppleScripts for iTunes.

This is a WordPress plugin tweaked from wordpress related entries plugin, it also uses portions of the nice categories plugin to list the related posts - comma separated with ‘and’ before the last in the same whay that nice categories does with categories.

Example:

Welcome Marshmallow, Marshmallow theme maybe?, to theme or not to theme?, Pompey FC T610 Theme and Milk Theme for T610.

Download plugin code (ZIP file) - should be ok hopefully, but please leave any comments and Ill tweak the code if necessary.

*EDIT:* Ok, code. place
< ?php nice_related_posts(); ?>
where you want the list.

you can customise it thusly
nice_related_posts($limit=5, $normal_separator = ', ', $penultimate_separator = ' and ', $show_pass_post =false)
$limit is the amount of post to be listed (default is 5), normal_separator whatevers between the posts (default is ‘,’ or comma), penultimate_separator is what appears between the last and penultimate post (defaults to ‘and’), show_pass_post is whether or not to show passworded posts.

*For example*
< ?php nice_related_posts(3, ' or ', ' and finally ', false); ?>
would result in

post 1 or post 2 and finally post 2

hopefully that helps, but WP mangles code tags so sorry if theres some confusion

Jeez, even the mighty MS is getting in on the blog trend - better late than never I suppose.
Ive clicked on a few of the sites and they arent the prettiest of creatures.

Ive started having ago at this today by altering my style to make it as easy to use (as I can anyway) as Kubrick. Seems to be going OK so far but Im concentrating on getting everything working and Ill play the the colours later. Also, because of my minimal CSS etc skills, Im sure some bit could be done better and Ive found a few issues with this site through having to check the code more carefully. The different php file ‘modules’ work slightly differently to the Kubrick for 1.3; for instance, whilst some divs open in one file and close in another on Kubrick, mine are all self contained. This makes it a bit easier to edit but also less flexible, its also down to the way my mind works (or doesnt) - as I cannot keep track of all the different divs in different files in my head. I wont put up any pics as Im still playing with it and its basically _this_ but paired down to minimal images and a different colour.
I still have the stripes along the back, at the top but Ive done them as a gif in the body css tag but I wonder if that can be done as pure css?
Oh yeah, and another thing .. the shadow either side of the middle bit ( ;-) ) is a png so that the stripes show through. Now, as IE (_spit_) doesnt show pngs properly should I do it some other way (ie drop the shadow)?

*Edit:* _Note_, the screen grab on this post is from _this_ theme, *not* the one im making (working name *Mallow* - but itll probably stay). Visually its similar, but just alot less fussy and with just the one image file (If i remember correctly … err, make that 3).

Hmm, I wonder? It might be a crazy idea but Im considering turning my current Marshmallow theme into a WP 1.3 theme in a similar way to Michael’s Kubrick, of course Michaels is currently for WP 1.2, you need Ryans for 1.3. After seeing all the extra problems Its caused him im not sure though, especially as its not something I really considered doing before. Just dont expect the same response times and knowledge from me if you have any hypothetical problems with this hypothetical theme. I may well just try it as my own project anyway but I think Ill be altering the colours and stuff a tad - and of course with full Kubrick credits as thats essentially my code template.
On a similar note, Fernando has a fewrather nicethemes forpeople to use in WP 1.2, its just a shame they arent for 1.3 really or Id have more styles to play with (I just noticed that with a few tweaks they do work under 1.3 as themes :-D ).
Ive also just discovered a theme switcher for WP 1.3 from Ryan so Ill be using that to switch between themes when testing, assuming Ill be trying this theme malarky. Im already trying it just for the hell of it (on my PowerBooks local site, not *this one*.

*Edit:* It occurs to me that I cannot decide whether its best to start with Kubrick and turn that into ‘Marshmallow’ or take ‘Marshmallow’ and _Kubrickise™_ it into a usable, user friendly theme. Pride makes we want to choose the later but practicalities make me think the former is the best way.
Kubrick has been well bug tested by now whereas my site is just _me_ and im not too bothered if something broke for a while. Kubrick also has lots of neat touches that Id like to have in a theme but which this site doesnt have, like the way itll tell you what area of the archive youre in for instance, which people should really expect as its been done, My site has a few odd tweaks to it which may be difficult to find and remove with out good testing (me ;-) ), although some of those tweaks may be lost if it try to convert Kubrick, and some of those maybe good tweaks. I like the idea of altering mine though as itll be a good way to look through the WP1.3 theme code, dissecting between my site and Kubrick. I also dont yet know the Kubrick CSS (mine holds many redundant settings) well enough yet to know what Ill be altering most of the time, also being lazy Ill probably leave some stuff if its easier.
Well, Ive still not made up my mind, both ways hold attractions and peril, however Ill no doubt have a quick stab at altering my site to make a style and see how that goes and how complicated it may get.

Paparazzi! is a neat app for Mac OSX that lets you take grabs of sites like this, that is to say, you can grab more than just the screen area - incase its not obvious.

Xmas 04
Im not particularly a fan of Christmas so to that end Ive got 2 different banners - a red one (which are sort of blurry and moving looking) and a white one (these arent blurry and moving) which will randomly alter on page load.
Highlights of the grabs are my just re-worked navigation tabs and Apple-whore red “give apple” tag.

Im currently going through my site check previous posts. If the link is no longer relevant (IE. Ive removed what it links to so its now a dead link) then Im marking it as private so that it no longer appears on the site. Im also attempting to fix any pics with dodgy links.

*Edit:* Its very difficult working out what to remove or edit, I feel like Im re-writing history sometimes. Alas some of it just plain doesnt work anymore (like my fucker poll), some of the posts Im just removing the relevant offending links. Im also fixing speeling mistaks if I see any.

Phew, *definately* a chore!

*Edit:* Done. Dropped about 20 or so posts I _guess_. Altered a few.

Ok, with the podcasting stuff - I quite like it and im persevering, I do like WeFunkRadio and a few others but Im finding the aggregators (mac OS X of course) very lacking when compared with the mighty NetNewsWire. Luckily Ive googled upon a solution. This is a script for NetNewsWire which downloads the MP3s and adds them to iTunes. Unfortunately it insists on initially downloading the last 10 or so podcasts .. so if its your site im hitting atm - then Im sorry but its not my fault, you need to reduce the amount of posts your RSS feeds sends out. Please Ranchero .. add podcast integration to NetNewsWire.

Literally just found this, so Ive got to try that out too. Ooops, Its just for his Podcast.

Ive just read on Binary Bonsai about an annoying bug in WP 1.2.1 and 1.3a5 that buggers up the settings in your site, basically visit the WP forums to find the fix.
My sites had this problem recently so fingers crossed.

*Edit:* Seems to be working, Ive also fixed PompeyBlogs.

My direct gallery link doesnt work for some reason (presumably due to WP1.3). Ive tried playing with htaccess files but still no joy, so until ive fixed it you have to go directly to the albums page.

Here is some pics from my visit to the Apple Store in Regent Street, London, theyre a tad blurry due to being taken with my phone.
