Yeah well, fuck 'em. I *really* dont like power companies cold calling at my door.
No, I'm quite happy with my current power provider. Thank you very much.

Ive just noticed this interesting little thing about the new PowerBooks. Presumably we'll have an OS update at some point so we can all have this.
165 Apple ads available as a bittorrent #.
Most of them are typical Americana cheese-fest ads, however of note for me include following (some of which Ive seen before);

The classic 1984 ad.

Very funny 'switch' ad with a faux Jackson.

I remember these Macs with PCs on a separate board inside them, I dont think they sold too well.

Jeff Goldblum saves the world with Mac.

The ever odd and slightly depressing 'Lemmings' ad.

The regular Mac Classic (not the Classic II which this ad is for) was *my* first Mac as opposed to the first Mac I used, which was an SE btw.

Ahh yes... I remember this.

Was I the only one to notice that the badguys used PCs and drove BMWs?.

Bow down before me.

PowerBook Duo (1 and 2), Im really suprised this idea never took off more really.

I managed to borrow a black and white Powerbook for a weekend once.

Im not sure which came first, this ad or Bill Gates (in)famous Windows crashing in the middle of a presentation.

Ha! Ha!

Ha! Ha!

Ha! Ha! Bit of theme for these last 3 ads :-D

The Cube could have done *so* well if it had been price like the Mini.

Oh Yes!

Oh Yes! Oh Yes! This was my first tower Mac.

My first laptop was a 12" iBook.

Err yes, I had one of these too! I didnt realise how many Macs Ive had. It was a great Mac and I even added a video card in the mezzanine slot just for Unreal. It not resides in Melbourne Australia, still going strong.

Kick his *ass* Steve!

The bug that never was.

I *really* wanted a Newton and my PalmPilot just wasnt the same.

Ok, a mere 4 days after buying Halo Ive completed it, it was a fun few days but this game really *is too short* and Im not known for completing them particularly quickly I can assure you. In fact my favourite game ever, Deus Ex took me months to complete. Mind you I have been on holiday so I have maybe been hammering it a tad. From what Ive heard Halo 2 is even shorter, or at least quicker to complete. Anyway, a few other minor points for me - I really didnt feel that I had explored the Halo world very much, it felt like maybe 1% of the Halo was experienced and i was really left wanting more, especially as there is only a few different environments in Halo and these were repeated ad nauseam just varying slightly if The Flood were around. There was lots of room, corridor, room, corridor, room, corridor, bridge, room, corridor, room, corridor, bridge, goto 10. I guess this maybe relevant to the Halo world but I did feel cheated somewhat, particularly considering the underground hype that surrounded this game before Microsoft bought Bungie.
On the plus side, the online element seems pretty good (not that Ive tried it too much) and the little grunts screaming "Another enemy!" or whatever is funny. The vehicles are good, although I never got a go in a Covenant tank as I had to blow it up each time. Load speeds are fantastic and despite the _odd_ moment of slowdown or freezing it did run pretty well on my 128mb ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 with pretty much everything upped to the max and on full screen resolution (1280x854 I believe).
What this game does make me realise is that games like Unreal Tournament 2K4 whilst maybe not having such an immediate pick up and complete effect, can be left and gone back to again and again, indeed the original UT still seems to have pretty busy online servers.
Its worth noting that Bungies 3 Marathon games are now released free for all to use, theres a PC app and an OSX one too.
*My potted rating:* 7/10 (could try harder).
BTW, Heres a page of old Marathon info.
Further to my podcasts subscriptions, heres my complete NetNewsWire subscriptions.

You may already have noticed on sites that is the Macs 21st Birthday and theres a lovely little video of it on those previous sites, and mirrored around the place.
21 years hey... that means I was 10 when it came out, a scary thought. I even had relatively extensive use of the early Macs, including an SE, SE/30 and a Plus. My first home computer (after my Commodore 64) was in fact a Mac Classic followed my an LC (no L33T LC II or LC475 for me) which was pretty good at the time. I couldnt have imagined when I sat in front of my 9" black and white 8mhz 2mb RAM, playing Dark Castle - the likes of Halo or Unreal Tournament 2004.
BTW, heres a torrent for the file.

Oh yes, this is a pretty damn good fucking movie. Go see, enjoy, laugh... oh and please _get_ the joke.

Yes I know old news blah blah... but after a long time of forcing myself not to buy Halo due to MicroSoft acquiring Bungie and then never releasing the game that Halo was promised to be during all those years to the many Marathon fans, I bought it. And yes its pretty damn good.
Ill do a every so slightly more in depth (no, seriously) reviewette later.

Here is my PS2, currently in pieces.. Originally uploaded by somefool.
Its been doing clickety-clickety CD, non game loading action at the moment. SO as I got fed up with dismantling and err re-mantling it, Ive just left it in pieces
Mallow 1.52, 22-1-5 - Changed font colours from lightgray and dimgray to HEX equivalents as suggested by Mikkel Tscherning, this should ensure the CSS validates.
