Mallow Version 1.54

Mallow 1.54, 18-2-5 - The comment form (Name, Mail and Website parts) are now set up as per the default WP 1.5 theme (Kubrick). Ive have set some CSS which should prevent images which are too wide from going over the sidebar, as per usual this is adapted from Kubrick.

1.531, 13-2-5 - I noticed that the background image in #topimage was best aligned center top.

WordPress Theme Competition 2

WordPress Theme Competition for 1.5. Ive submitted Mallow of course.

2001: A Space Odyssey icons

Some very nice 2001: A Space Odyssey themed icons.

Wordpress No Follow

Wordpress No Follow plugin is now enabled on somefool, this should disable the no follow tag in comments.

Seems I completely misunderstood the purpose of that plugin, try this one instead.

Asides are enabled .. beep beep

Ive now started doing asides, as described by Brendan. This is one of those asides. Ill also be going back a few pages turning a few old posts into asides, unfortunately that will no doubt mean youll get sent them in your aggregator .. sorry for any inconvenience.

My Blogs Gallery or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Gallery

Ok, I get quite a few emails asking how Ive managed to integrate my gallery using Gallery with the design of my blog in WordPress.

Unfortunately when I first did the integration I never took any notes of what I did and when I update the design now I tend to do a quick search and replace but I shall attempt to explain what I did so as to get you started.

Unlikely as it seems, it isnt that complicated and is infact easier using the WP1.5 template theme than with 1.2. It is also easier with Mallows system of files where the header navigation is in a separate file from all the html head tag stuff. In fact, you might like to set your files up like that to get the upmost from gallery and keep it simple.

Disclaimer: As I did do this a while ago I cannot guarantee following this to the letter will work, and you will have to get your hands dirty with php. Also, this is with Gallery version 1.4.4-rc-1 though I suspect the theory works with most.

Ok, onwards and upwards: In the main gallery viewing files (such as albums.php, search.php, view_photo.php etc. Best If you choose yourself which ones you want to apply your style to, for instance I dont apply it to the single image) you need to add a link to your css file. If you look through the files you should see something like < ?php common_header() ;?> - the usual link to your css goes after that (and any links to .js files also) mine looks like this

Next: Go into html_wrap and again open any files you wish to make your style and in the header section you need to include any opening divs and also php include your navigation header in the correct place for you. My section in the file is thusley;

< ?php include("/path/to/wp13/wp-content/themes/sflwa3/topbanner.php"); ?>

Then do the same in the footer part, again I add something like;< ?php include("/usr/home/somefool/public_html/wp13/wp-content/themes/sflwa3/footer.php"); ?>

If youve done this using my 'trial n error', 'hit n miss' (Patent Pending) system then Like me youll be adding code, refreshing, adding code, refreshing, adding code, refreshing, etc etc until it works.

Well, *good luck!*

Im now testing WP-Hashcash

WP-Hashcash is my latest attempt at testing anti-spam plugins. Looks pretty good, not Captchas or anything, some sort of browser based call and answer I think. Anyway, any problems tell me.

Have a look around

somefool
Well, I clearly managed to get -most of- it finished so here it is .. welcome to sflwa3 (I think its v3 anyway .. sort of). My home away from home on the inkernet.

Due to the usual vagaries and pitfalls of the haphazard method of css/php tinkering (patent pending) there may well be some doors which open onto brick walls or walls which are the wrong colour. I apologise for any inconvenience you may experience during this time at che-fool but hopefully I shall be able to fix any problems if youd just like to inform the architects and painter/decorators via the form found below.

All that pointless waffle done with, this is quite a radical change for me as Im used to more incremental ones, but if I do get total freaked out by it I can always revert back to the pink/grey version :-D

Enjoy.

*Sorry, quick update:* I know it looks a bit shit in IE on Windows, I may or may not fix it.

Another redesign? Maybe

Heres a sneaky look at my current redesign. I very rarely get as far as implementing these and Im still working on it so who knows.. it may just disappear.....

Im attempting to make it a single column and generally a bit different from _most_ regular blog designs. IE 2 column.

*Cheers all*, Its a bright strong for me, Im used to slightly well, more delicate colours like the current one but I shall persevere - that design is only a few hours work after all. Unusually for me I started it in photoshop just to save all the CSS hassles before I can get to colours and what not and once I got to a point that it seemed worthwhile doing the CSS, I started setting it up as a WP template style (thats not to say one Ill be releasing ;-) )

Im still trying to make that top bit work, and something which doesnt show up in that small screengrab is the bottom ... All the stuff in the sidebar which isnt up there I have moved to a similarly styled area at the bottom, unfortunately Im just not sure it works.

Im not sure why there is that side scroll, it could just be something lower down thats broken in my test site so you cannot see it.

Yes, I like the pink :-D and yes theres still a 'little' in there. Its essentially a green and red design (doh!) so there will be smatterings of pink in there.

*Jeezus!* Ive just re-read what Ive posted above and I think I need to get into the habit of _actually reading_ posts before I hit the *go* button. Maybe its just me, but it reads _really_ badly and has a few mistakes in it. Sorry to anyone who is confused by the way I write (IE badly), I shall try harder in the future - honest!

*Update:* Its going pretty well and due in at least some part to WP1.5s fantastic theme support Im tempted to get a rough cut done of the design and all the pages then upload and activate the sucka! A biproduct of this design is that I cant clutter the sidebars (as there arent any) and the header/footer areas which allow for contextual information dont really work if theyre full of irrelevancy so Ive been preening alot of extra crap. Anyway, I _may_ manage to get something up tonight but it depends on how the pages go really .. whatever happens, when i *do* upload it .. _expect errors_ :-D

*Very close now* :-D One thing Ive forgotten all about though is the gallery :-/ Ill have to do that in pieces I think :-(

Fernando goes 1.5
