Three, Nine, Twelve and Three - "At 15.00, 21.00, 24.00 and 03.00, take a photo of yourself and what you're doing. Then post those photos as soon as possible on flickr or your blog, and link back to my entry (which will go live on the day) and vice versa."
wp-slimstat, track your blog. Neat little WordPress mint-a-like stats tracker. Note this though. Ive posted a grab showing my custom CSS.

Some of you may be wondering what digital voodoo it is that I’ve been employing to create those wonderful date contextual messages you see under the navigation just like that seen above. Well wonder no more brave digital pioneer, I shall put an end to your head scratching wonderment.

Firstly, choose yourself a date and secondly choose yourself a message for that very special date you just chose.

Here’s one I made earlier:

<?php
$specialday = (date(‘md’)==’1222’);
if($specialday) { ?>
<p>What a special day this is!</p>
<?php } ?>

Where ‘1222’ is the date (22nd of December in this case) and ‘What a special day this is!’ is your message. If you have a specific year in mind change ‘md’ to ‘mdy’ and and the year on the end of ‘1222’ - so ‘122206’ is this year.

That’s all, enjoy this simple yet fun tweakage.

What a day!

JR's "A Year in the Life of a Melbourne Web-Designer" picture a day project is coming to this year's end. "Regular readers of Dogmatic will know it has been an eventful year (to say the friggn least!) but I still managed to document each and every day (thusfar) with a photo and description of the day's events." This is the kind of project I'd really love to have the determination to see through.

Anyone have any suggestions for good web design books? Aside from Transcending CSS and how’s this?

I’m not only looking books about CSS, coding, etc but also the logic and ideas behind the layout, navigation and flow of the site.

So, any help please?

Proto-Gravity-Modding - ExpressCard/34

Following my recent experience dropping my MacBook Pro I’ve set up a Gravity Modding pool on Flickr.

Theres a screencast on this site of the new build of the Parallels 3036 build which allows you to run Windows and Mac apps along side each other and even boot Parallels from a Boot Camp partition.

With it being my birthday next week I’m torn between throwing money away on an Xbox 360, a second hand Xbox or Vice City Stories for my PSP. This is fairly significant in itself because I did promise myself that I’d never buy an Xbox or Xbox 360 - so deep does The Cult of the Macintosh run through my veins.

So why am I suddenly tempted? Well its mainly due to the coverage I’ve been reading and hearing about the PS3. I’m sure the PS3 will be great in 2 years time, pumping out fantastic games, hopefully some sort of rumble re-introduced (even if it takes 3rd parties to make the controllers) and no doubt at a reasonable price. I don’t see the PS3 being viable in the short term though (and certainly not within my budget).

The Xbox 360 looks pretty interesting and I really want to play Gears of War. That’s really want to play it. The Xbox 360 is a stretch for my budget though and I hear of price drops some time after Christmas.

The Xbox, well, its pretty cheap at the moment, £70 for a new one from Game. Asides from my irrational reasons for not wanting to buy an MS product - I don’t really want to have to buy a new wheel for it. I have a USB PS2 Logitech force-feedback which may or may not work with the Xbox with an adaptor - anyone? Id have to play TOCA3 online with the Xbox as I don’t really like the homegrown Xbox driving games (Forza etc).

As for Vice City Stories - Liberty City Stories on the PSP was great and I suspect this will be even better but given the choice between £35 for VCS or £70 and then some for the Xbox I’m really undecided.

Normally I’m sure exactly what I want to buy and just go for it, but I’m genuinely in a quandry with this one.

Will of the British Mac Podcast (itunes) has a new one - The Sunday Papers (itunes). Very funny and a thoroughly enjoyable listen - you dont have to be British to listen to it, but being a Mac user is advisable. Be sure to stick your pin in his map.
My Home on iLike™. hey, check out this cool music thing I signed up for. it helps you find music with friends. try it, it's pretty easy :-)

Roots Manuva
Went to see Roots Manuva at Southsea’s Wedgewood Rooms last night. It was pretty damned good, after the opening DJs Mr Manuva came on with his mainly dancehall inspired set and then proceeded to do some of his own tracks. Here’s some pics and a movie.

Microsoft to pay Universal for every Zune sold. "We felt that any business that's built on the bedrock of music we should share in," said Doug Morris, chief executive of Universal, owned by French media giant Vivendi. Where's the logic in this?
I thought it was worth reiterating my 'welcome back' cookie system which I got of Michael at the Binary Bonsai as I have refined it slightly.

Welcome back?

For reasons best known to themselves, NTL have changed their channel numbers so they're in line with Sky. IE BBC1 is no longer the quick 'n' easy '1'. No, its the easily miss-pressed '101'. Likewise ITV is now '103' instead of the sensible '3'. Apparently this system is more 'logical' but I can't see the benefit myself. '1' doesn't seem to be doing anything now so why bother moving them other than to confuse an bemuse your customers by taking a simple logical system and making it illogical. Oh well, anyone from NTL (or SKy for that matter) care to explain the logic?

1 = 101? wtf!
