1.59, 22-6-7 - Nominal update for possible WP2.2 compatibility - adding <?php wp_footer(); ?> to footer.php.
Lewis Hamilton won the US GP. I think this might be a regular occurrence, well done Hamilton - great race. Good fight with Alonso, especially the out-breaking manoeuvre into the first corner where Lewis edged Alonso out. Also of note, Jenson Button’s good drive in a clearly underpowered car and n00b Vettel’s performance. It’s only a matter of time before the superlatives run out for Hamilton.
Apple's freshly designed site uses a form of Livesearch. Im not so sure about the new navigation bar on Apple's site myself.
There's an interesting discussion doing the rounds at the moment about the various pros and cons of Apple versus Microsoft font rendering caused by Apple's recent Safari for Windows beta release. I've posted grabs in Flickr how I have mine set up in OS X and Adobe Photoshop's foibles in font rendering, but with regards Apple versus Microsoft I definitely prefer Apple's way. It's certainly a personal preference; Apple's softer, more close to the original font designer's look; or Microsoft's harsher, sharper, arguably more legible (I dont think so) system. There's a good comment on TAUW's post about this. Apple certainly shouldn't in my opinion have swayed from the Microsoft system for their Windows version of Safari, imagine if Microsoft had done the same - leave it to what the user is familiar with.
People do seem to be divided by which OS they use the most, and that makes perfect sense but I do cringe ever so slightly when I glance at a Windows screenshot, or over the shoulder of a Windows user. The Microsoft anti-aliasing is for me just too sharp and clumsy looking. Small text looks barely smoothed at all and larger type is unsubtle, rough looking. Whereas Apple's smoothing is soft and rounded, so the text is easier to read and less straining on the eye due to the comparatively lower overall screen contrast.
Lewis Hamilton is on pole for the US GP, maybe he'll make a habit of this.
I have made a style for the K2 WordPress theme based of the look of my current site, Blanc. In a fit of originality I’ve dubbed it Mt Blanc, you get it?
It’s my first style for K2 and is heavily based on the bundled ‘vader’ style. It likely has a few bugs, leave notes on this post and I’ll update it.
Installation, chuck it in “wp-content/themes/k2/styles/mtblanc” and activate in the K2 control panel.
From the Webkit blog:
We're continuing to monitor feedback on the beta from the web, forums and bug reports. [...] We appreciate all your testing and will continue to make Safari and WebKit better.
I received an intriguing comment on my post about Greenpeace.
Perhaps I’m late to the game here and someone has already pointed this out, but I wanted to respond to your atheism quote in your ‘about’. I’m aware of the inappropriateness of my commenting this here, so you can place this where you will or delete it.
As you are also surely well aware, Athiesm is a belief system. You believe there is no god, higher power, etc. ‘Not collecting stamps’ isn’t a belief system, isn’t established as a hobby, etc. However, Athiesm is considered a belief. Thats why you get to call it athiesm, and not “I practice not believing in god”. In other words, you ‘have faith that there is no god’. Which is still faith. In fact, you also have faith in the fact that you are right, something no one can measure.
I don’t understand why comparing your disbelief in something compares to not doing an activity. Its a ridiculous analogy. Your disbelief in god is something you care about, or you wouldn’t mention it. My not collecting stamps is something I could give a lick about (no pun intended), and therefore I don’t mention it.
Do you really have people trying to conver you? Really? How often? I have homeless people beg for money from me at least once a week, and that’s somewhat trying after a while. How many times has someone tried to convert you that you feel it necessary to include that in your about? Just the fact that you describe yourself as an athiest seems like you’re trying to provoke a reaction, which you have done so successfully with me. If you don’t believe in god, who cares? Why tell people? Do you consider it that important that people know you don’t believe in god? Does it influence your character so much so? It seems arrogant. I don’t list in my about, nor do I notice in many, any mention of their belief in god.
If you care about it, then it matters and you shouldn’t lessen your stance by referring to it in comparison to something you don’t care about.
I was going to write a long peace replying to every small misguided, misunderstood, irrelevant point - but I wont. It’s my blog, I’ll write what I want. If you want to believe in fairies, leprechauns, the flying spaghetti monster, a big smiley man in the sky or whatever then that’s up to you. Just don’t be under any illusion that it’s provable.
Atheism is not a belief, it’s a lack of belief. And remember, you religious lot are Atheists too, I just believe in one (or more) less God(s). So instead of just playing at it, join me in eternal damnation as an Atheist - there’s going to be a whole heap-load of Gods fighting over throwing us into their own brand of Hell’s fire.
Hamilton wins his first GP, and what an action packed race it was too, with 4 safety cars and a big crash for Kubica amongst many others going off and Alonso barely making it around corner 1 on most laps.
Then, just after the track went clear again, Kubica had a horrible crash in the very quick left-hander prior to the hairpin on lap 27, his BMW Sauber hitting the outside wall and then rolling all the way down to the hairpin entry. As the safety car came out again the Pole was released from the wreckage, mercifully conscious and lucid, and was hospitalised with a suspected broken ankle.
Oh yes, well done Sato, fantastic overtake on Alonso.
FOM saw fit to remove loads of videos from Youtube - the fools.
Just a note to say my blog should now be fully on WordPress 2.2, any odd boo boos don't hesitate to tell me. It was a tough choice, but I figured I'd have to upgrade sooner or later. BTW, this is posted form within TextMate by BlogMate. Oh yeah, and I discovered WP2.2 hosed my meticulously setup htaccess file - cheers WP!
