Open Mic Night will be every 1st and 3rd Wednesday from July at The Fawcett Inn, Fawcett Road, Portsmouth, UK!

The FIA have announced that McLaren will not score constructors’ championship points this year and face an unprecedented $100m fine for their role in the espionage case.
However Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso will still be allowed to score points towards the drivers’ championship.
McLaren will also not be allowed any constructor’s representatives on the podium for the rest of the year. #

Wow! On the face of it, these seems very harsh and I’d be interested to know the details of what happened.

Really, how does this kind of hokum ever make it onto TV?

Have our souls lived before?  Do you believe in life after death?  Have you ever met someone and been convinced you have met them in a previous life?  … Have I Been Here Before? offers celebrity guests the chance to see if they have lived before … in a past life. The celebrities will be regressed by experienced therapist Andrea Foulkes, and in the process they often reveal some deeply intimate thoughts about their current lives.

I can’t see how it’s any better than the ‘psychic’ TV channels.

Also, their video player (which appears to be Flash based) doesn’t work on a Mac. What’s with that?

“I had a meeting with my probation officer today and he told me that he has to install monitoring software onto my PC. No big deal to me; that is part of my sentence,” he wrote on his Lost and Alone blog. “However, their software doesn’t support GNU/Linux (Which is what I use). So, he told me that if I want to use a computer, I would have to use an OS that the software can be installed on.” The monitoring software in question is only available for Microsoft Windows. Neither Linux nor a Macintosh running OS X would be an acceptable platform. #

Science is a secular process and has nothing to do with the question of the existence, or the non-existence, of a God. It is thus relocated to the Philosophy shelves upstairs. “But what about Dawkins?!” I hear you cry. Dawkins is another well-known atheist, I agree, but he is best known as an evolutionary biologist and his books are strongly evolution-themed. #

Very funny, more than a little tempted to try this myself. Via Kottke.

The Items I Carry
Go on, join in the fun! Lots of iPhones from the Americans and an interesting array of wooden desks as backgrounds too.

I received an intriguing comment on my post about Greenpeace.

Perhaps I’m late to the game here and someone has already pointed this out, but I wanted to respond to your atheism quote in your ‘about’. I’m aware of the inappropriateness of my commenting this here, so you can place this where you will or delete it.

As you are also surely well aware, Athiesm is a belief system. You believe there is no god, higher power, etc. ‘Not collecting stamps’ isn’t a belief system, isn’t established as a hobby, etc. However, Athiesm is considered a belief. Thats why you get to call it athiesm, and not “I practice not believing in god”. In other words, you ‘have faith that there is no god’. Which is still faith. In fact, you also have faith in the fact that you are right, something no one can measure.

I don’t understand why comparing your disbelief in something compares to not doing an activity. Its a ridiculous analogy. Your disbelief in god is something you care about, or you wouldn’t mention it. My not collecting stamps is something I could give a lick about (no pun intended), and therefore I don’t mention it.

Do you really have people trying to conver you? Really? How often? I have homeless people beg for money from me at least once a week, and that’s somewhat trying after a while. How many times has someone tried to convert you that you feel it necessary to include that in your about? Just the fact that you describe yourself as an athiest seems like you’re trying to provoke a reaction, which you have done so successfully with me. If you don’t believe in god, who cares? Why tell people? Do you consider it that important that people know you don’t believe in god? Does it influence your character so much so? It seems arrogant. I don’t list in my about, nor do I notice in many, any mention of their belief in god.

If you care about it, then it matters and you shouldn’t lessen your stance by referring to it in comparison to something you don’t care about.

I was going to write a long peace replying to every small misguided, misunderstood, irrelevant point - but I wont. It’s my blog, I’ll write what I want. If you want to believe in fairies, leprechauns, the flying spaghetti monster, a big smiley man in the sky or whatever then that’s up to you. Just don’t be under any illusion that it’s provable.

Atheism is not a belief, it’s a lack of belief. And remember, you religious lot are Atheists too, I just believe in one (or more) less God(s). So instead of just playing at it, join me in eternal damnation as an Atheist - there’s going to be a whole heap-load of Gods fighting over throwing us into their own brand of Hell’s fire.

Charlie Brooker has some suggestions about lying for fun.

Text a friend at random saying: “Wahey! I’m in a HELICOPTER!” Someone did this to me once; it worked a treat. Try it now. Go on.

You and a friend are listening to an unfamiliar song on the radio. Before it finishes, say, “I can’t believe this is Charles Dance - the man’s lost his mind”, then maintain that it is Charles Dance, it really bloody is, honestly, you read about it somewhere. Keep the pretence up as long as you can, despite their protestations, even if it’s a woman singing. Say he’s recorded it for a cow charity. Get angry if they don’t believe you. They will eventually. They always do.

Some silly creationists are finally opening their wacky $27 million Creation Museum on Monday in Petersburg, Kentucky. The slogan on the museum’s site? “Prepare to believe.”

It seems to me that the only comments allowed on this video of BBC journalist John Sweeney loosing it when interviewing Scientologists for Panorama are by those deriding him and supporting Scientology. Coincidence? Why don’t you try commenting, maybe just ask them if they’re only allowing comments which support their view? Does the official Scientologist’s website have anything to say?

More opinion.
