It seems to me that the only comments allowed on this video of BBC journalist John Sweeney loosing it when interviewing Scientologists for Panorama are by those deriding him and supporting Scientology. Coincidence? Why don’t you try commenting, maybe just ask them if they’re only allowing comments which support their view? Does the official Scientologist’s website have anything to say?

More opinion.

I hadn’t noticed this Current TV channel before. Just watched “What’s Wrong With Intelligent Design?”, watching “Guerrilla Gardener”.

I watched Hot Fuzz at the cinema last night - 2 thumbs up!

I’m a bit slow with this, but David Mitchell and Robert Webb of Peep Show fame (That Mitchell and Webb Sound is great also, but That Mitchell and Webb Look is not so good) are the front men for the new Apple UK Get a Mac ads.

These ads are essentially re-workings of the original US ads with a more British ‘bent’ and they work pretty well in my opinion. David Mitchell makes a great PC but I’m not so sure about Robert Webb as the Mac, maybe he needs a revised wardrobe - more casual and ‘slacker’. I look forward to some Peep Show style “what I’m really thinking of you” ads - but I doubt they’ll do them.

It’s all going off in the Big Brother house. Their big mistake was putting Jade in. A previous contestant (winner? I forget) of Big Brother - she already has a big enough ego for all the ’ celebrities’ in there, sticking her in Celebrity Big Brother is just asking for trouble.

For reasons best known to themselves, NTL have changed their channel numbers so they’re in line with Sky. IE BBC1 is no longer the quick ‘n’ easy ‘1’. No, its the easily miss-pressed ‘101’. Likewise ITV is now ‘103’ instead of the sensible ‘3’. Apparently this system is more ‘logical’ but I can’t see the benefit myself. ‘1’ doesn’t seem to be doing anything now so why bother moving them other than to confuse an bemuse your customers by taking a simple logical system and making it illogical. Oh well, anyone from NTL (or SKy for that matter) care to explain the logic?

Snakes On A Plane is shit # ##, even the theme song is shit (though at least it has a funny parody).

Its set up like a 70s disaster movie with all the usual cliche characters climbing aboard for the ride, theres even Will Smith/Jayzee character, a Paris Hilton (though her dog does die in a kind of comedic way) and the main foil of the film is a Marky Mark-a-like.

Whilst there is a few amusing deaths and the film as a whole is fairly funny, its just not a good film. Watch it on DVD and save the cinema ticket for something for deserving like A Scanner Darkly.

I saw A Scanner Darkly last night. I wont spoil any surprises with much of a review (not that you’d expect a decent review from me anyway) just to say that about a quarter of the way through it was starting to loose me; by half way it had dragged me in; and by the end I wanted a half hour more at least. It certainly got everyone talking afterwards.

    Go watch.

A friend at work did this, Ill pass along any comments.

Jenson Button wins the Hungary Formula 1 in a fantastic wet race from 14th position.

There is both a new series of Dragon’s Den and new show Time Trumpet this Thursday on BBC. Good Times! ;-)

The new series from Armando Iannucci (If you havent, you need to watch his political satire, The Thick Of It), Time Trumpet is on BBC 2 in a few weeks. Its a satirical look back at todays TV from the future. From what Ive seen in the 10 minute preview, it looks very similar in style to Chris Morris satire such as The Day Today.

Metacritic.com has an interesting way of reviewing movies, music, TV shows, games and books. From the site, “Metacritic compiles reviews from respected critics and publications for film, video/dvd, books, music, television and games. Our unique Metascores show the critical consensus at a glance by taking a weighted average of critic grades.”

Dark side of the Moon meets Wizard of Oz in the music/video mash-up you could never be bothered to do yourself. I knew someone someone on the internet must have done the hard work for me. Doesnt seem to synch significantly to me.

A quick reviewette if you will of Pirates of the Caribbean 2 - Its pretty good. Sadly no Keith Richards (I hear he’s in 3 - which 2 sets up quite nicely for), but the CGI for the Davy Jones pirate crew is great - very creepy. The use of the word ‘bugger’ in a Disney film (multiple times even) amused me. All in all a fun romp. Brian Ford has an interesting slant on someone else’s review.

    getamac

Apple’s new Get A Mac ad campaign, the TV Ads are quite funny in a slightly cringe-inducing way, I can see many PC users being irked and just a tad offended by some of the simplifications in the ads. The PC guy is a very stereotyped PC office person and the Mac guy is a painfully trendy designer-stubbled type. Viruses is maybe a bit cheeky considering the recent proof of concept viruses and supposed holes in OSX, but hopefully this is a sign of Apple paying more attention to viruses. Restarting is funny, but I for one have had to restart my Mac a few times. Better is well, not the best. iLife is a pretty good ad. Network is my favourite. WSJ is for an American audience really. Be sure to have a delve around the site.

    bahrain

The first race of the new season at Bahrain puts F1 off to a good start with an exciting new rules qualifying session followed by an even more enthralling race.

Ah, the great irony of the British public - the winner of Celebrity Big Brother is not a celebrity haha.

Ha great, cries of WANKER as Galloway comes out of the Big Brother house! :-D

Wow, some interesting stuff, including a very expensive new Intel Dual Core Powerbook dubbed - MacBook Pro - horrific name!

    Video feed

Intel Macs should be able to run Windows

iLife iPhoto has a nice update, some good new features. iWeb looks pretty good too, but I wont have much use for it. iDVD and iMovie dont really affect me so I dont know whats new with those. Garageband is more of a video/podcast related update and I dont do those so Im not that bothered. BTW, try using your mouse scroll wheel or two fingered trackpad (if you have one) on the iLife header image.

iWork We have an older copy, but I never use it. Again, try scrolling over the header image.

MacBookPretty interesting. I want one, and I want to run dual boot Windows (just for games) or even better some sort of Fast-User Switching style hack. Shit name though - MacBook Pro .. urgh. Presumably non-Pro iBook-esque ones and 17” are on their way. I could put one on my credit card, but ….

iMac Same comments as MacBook Pro really, asides from the name.

Intel Let me dual boot please. Oh and ads.

    dukesoffuckwad
When did it become standard practice to release a movie then release the DVD as an ‘uncut’, ‘unseen’, ‘unedited’ or whatever?
