Wordpress 2.0.2 is out. Fixing some security issues. Oh how I wish for a 1-click upgrade button.

Wordpress 2.0.1 has been released. This closes 114 bugs and you can now specify an upload directory, and whether to use date-based storage or not, plus a few other things. The upgrade seems to have gone well so far, but what I would like to see is a one-click upgrade button within the admin panel. I dont know how realistic this is to do with a web app such as Wordpress, but with Wordpress’s maturity and the user base it seems to be aimed at (Id wager beginners through l33t) it should really be there if possible, as the current overwriting of disparate files and folders is quite scary.

Never content with my sites layout for more than a few weeks at the most, heres a very rough layout basically created by splicing up a screen grab in photoshop.
Ive not thought about single pages yet.

OK, maybe Ive done some sort of odd thing to my Wordpress 2 install (though Im pretty sure I havent) but should I get an email for every comment, whether it be in moderation or not? If its not standard WP practice it should be. I would like an email for every comment telling me what its current status is, and in addition an option in each email to put it into moderation, delete and approve. If I put it into moderation I should be able to choose some key words to add to my spam list (similar to the old spamwords plugin). Similarly, if Im approving it then surely I should be told why its in moderation and also give me some way to avoid similar comments going in there again. Is this not just common sense? I just dont feel some aspects of WP have evolved sufficiently with WP2.

I have a growing realisation I really dont like how Wordpress 2 handles images.

Have a look at my Gravwall by Thought Mechanics.

Ive now swapped over to WP2, I was going to wait for the final WP2 to be released, but sod it Ill take my chances.

Ive got a sandbox of sorts up, with the current WordPress 2 build on it. Just so I can see what does and doesnt work. Currently I dont have any plugins installed and ive not fixed anything so it doesnt work all to well. Im in the process of installing various plugins. Should all be up and running now, Im very tempted to just swap over to this new version.

New plugin shows your comments relative to any new comments on that post. To see it in action on my site, have a look under “Recent Comments” on the home page.

Im attempting AJAX comments, pretty much as described here. Its not 100% perfect by any means yet, many bugs so I may end up reverting back to non-AJAX if I cant work out the bugs. The first comment doesnt show up until you refresh the page.

Err, this post i looking pretty fucked up for some reason.

I was sure Id mentioned this before, but anyway have a look at the WordPress theme Squible. Its inspired by a few sites, including my old design. Take a look, its really very cool looking.

Michaels BB redesign is at 60% (I cant imagine how he’s calculating that percentage). Sadly it just reminds me how I am still yet to finish my redesign and how I cant get what’s in my head there on screen. Oh well.

The anti-evil-doer plugin, Bad Behavior has been updated to 1.2.3. If you have any one anti-spam plugin for WordPress, make it this.

Ultimate Tag Warrior is pretty cool, unfortunately due it seems to my use of home.php in WordPress i couldnt get it working properly. Well I found a fix. Have a search for Copperleaf’s comments on the UTW page. My only amend was that I had to enter “$wp_query->is_paged=true;” rather than “$wp_query->is_home=false;” in the function “ultimate_get_posts” just before the apply_filters call. Thats in the core file.

Well, sort of. Much like someone else Im in the progress of redesigning my site, however I wasnt brave enough to just work directly live on my site for the complete redesign so Ive got it to a workable stage where Im happy that its not too buggy and so should be ok for the ‘unwashed masses’ as it were.

Ive got some sketches of my ideas which may be helpful, but it is well worth noting that the colours are *no where* near finalised and so are currently a mixture of tests and colours from the old design as Im really just working on the mechanics at the moment.

Its by no means a revolutionary redesign, but just an attempt to cut some chaff and minimise plugins so expect the pages to be played with some more of the next few days/weeks/months and then hopefully I can introduce some colour.

*Enjoy.*

i now have a psp. This was posted via it.

Seems Mallow has been downloaded roughly 4,613 times since release. Nice.

Barely 2 months have passed and I already feel the need to ruffle up my winter plumage. Expect a new sandbox sometime soon. Well its going slowly and looks pretty hideous at the moment.

Ive been using WP Tiger administration for a while now.

Natty little WP database backup plugin, a fix for the error if you have no comments, and the WP-cron plugin to automate the backups.

O my, where o where is gravatar.com? FIX, see comments. ALL BACK UP, see here.

Michael’s Wordpress über-theme, k2, is available in alpha form. Give it a try.
